High School Bowling: Mountaineer girls post big win

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School girls bowling team added to the win column Saturday with a 38-2 victory over the Westwood Patriots.

The Mountaineeers began the afternoon by sweeping the Baker game set, winning all six points by a total score of 251-198.

In match game one, eight of nine possible points were won with a team total of 614-487. All nine points were taken in game two (656-520) with Natalie Dykhuis tossing a 178 game and Maddy Doucette shooting 156.

Game three saw eight point being won again, 558-486. Leading the way for the Mountaineers were seniors Natalie Dykhuis 431 (3 individual points) and Maddy Doucette with 412 (3 points). Senior Marissa Rasmussen (high game of 123) and sophomore junior Jane McAllister (high game of 120) both won all three individual points.

Also winning Saturday was the Mountaineer X team in a forfeit over the Westwood/Ishpeming X team. On top were seniors Trey Nichols (434) and Noah Jacko (423). Junior Stephanie List was next with a three-game series of 389.

Mountaineer boys bowling team lost to Westwood 32-8.

After splitting the Baker set 3-3, Westwood went on to sweep all three team games, 877-847, 857-761 and 858-748.

Leading the Mountaineers was junior Zach Spera with a 574 series including a 208 game. Spera also won all three individual points.

Junior Zach Hanson, bowling only two games, won both of his individual points with games of 189 and 174. Freshman Marcus Doucette chipped in a game of 189 while senior Brandon Malburg threw two games of 155 and 159.

This Saturday will find the Mountaineer bowlers in Ishpeming at River Rock Lanes. The girls and boys teams will take on Marquette while the X team will face Escanaba. Competition will begin at 9 a.m. (Central time).
