ScuttleBu(r)t: Bill Boddy’s Emeralds avenge rout

ScuttleBu(r)t …

Iron Mountain grad Bill Boddy, Manistique boys basketball’s first-year head coach, saw a major improvement from his Emeralds.

Eight days after losing by 43 points to Gladstone, Boddy’s Emeralds came back to stun the Braves 68-65 for his first win.

“Honestly, I believed our guys could do it,” said Boddy, his Emeralds shooting 1 for 18 on three-pointers in the previous meeting. “When we practice, we have really good shooters. Coming into this game, we knew how poorly we shot the last time we played them.”

Bill’s grandfather, Fred, was a football and basketball coach for many years. Bill’s dad, Scott, coached football at Iron Mountain and Calumet …

From the Twitter account of Green Bay sportscaster Burke Griffin: “If it makes sense for Aaron Rodgers to show ‘leadership’ by playing the final two meaningless games with a banged up OLine, then there is no excuse for not seeing some snaps in the preseason.”

Iron Mountain’s John Perla, agent for Saints kicker Wil Lutz, was disappointed to see his man settle for first alternate designation to the Pro Bowl. Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas got the first-team nod.

Lutz, a third-year kicker, has made all but one field goal and extra point this season. He’s third in the NFL in total points this season.

“That is tough to take,” Perla said on Facebook of the snub …

From the Twitter account of Green Bay Packer great LeRoy Butler: “I mean really if you can’t out play Mitch Trubisky, how good are you? Aaron’s only job is to OUT play the other QB!”

Crivitz’s coaching Meyers, Molly and Brett, were in the Iron Mountain High School gym to watch their nieces, Gwinn’s Mallory and Marissa Delmont, take on the Mountaineers.

Molly coaches volleyball and Brett guides the girls basketball team. Brett is a former Florence girls basketball coach, assisting Dan Zoeller and later leading the program.

Niagara recently knocked off Meyers’ defending M&O Conference champion Wolverines.

“I give Karl (Lamoreaux) and his team a lot of credit,” Meyers told Te EagleHerald. “They played their butts off.”
