Wrestling: Mountaineers take two duals

Wrestling

BARK RIVER — Iron Mountain flattened Gwinn and Bark River-Harris in high school wrestling Thursday.

With only three matches wrestled, the Mountaineers (8-3) downed the Modeltowners 60-6. IM’s Jon Carrion (160) pinned Lynn Urmanski in the first period and Caleb Burklund (189) pinned Tyler Macmillan in the third.

“Gwinn is really shorthanded with wrestlers this year but the three they sent out wrestled hard,” said IM Coach Cory McLaren.

Pins from Tre Sabotta (135, Preston Roberts (152), Carrion (160) and Burklund (189) powered the Mountaineers past Bark River 54-24.

Parker Stroud, Isaac Manier, Trevor Malburg, Dow Dawson and Myles Carey received byes against the Broncos.

“We will see Bark River again and have to be ready to wrestle come team districts,” McLaren said. “At this point in the season we are seeing what works and what doesn’t.

“Now we have some time during Christmas break to work on our technique and keep pushing our cardio.”

Next up for IM is the Munising Holiday Super Duals on Dec. 28.
