Boys basketball: Trojans beat Norway 56-46 in OT

CRYSTAL FALLS — Forest Park shut out Norway 10-0 in overtime and defeated the Trojans 56-46 in a matchup of Skyline Central Conference boys basketball teams.

The Trojans (4-3, 2-1) held a 10-point lead with about four minutes left in regulation. The Knights (2-4, 1-1) tied the game at 46 in the final seven seconds on a Kody Hendricks’ basket.

“We made some bad decisions down the stretch,” said FP coach Chris Nocerini. “We struggled from the free throw-line and we’re normally pretty good there.”

Forest Park converted 13 of 29 free throws but Riley Hendrickson sank five in overtime. Hendrickson had a string of 20 straight free throws end in the game.

Max Nylund accounted for the other five points in overtime.

“Max had a couple big baskets (including a 3-pointer in overtime),” Nocerini said. “Norway was forced to foul us down the stretch.”

Nylund led the Trojans with 17 points, followed by Keall Emmers with 14 and Hendrickson with 12. Tommy Peltoma grabbed 14 rebounds.

Hendricks’ 17 points and 12 rebounds topped the Knights. Trey Doda chipped in 12 points.

“We had some costly unforced turnovers,”Norway Coach Jeff Gallino said of the extra period. “I need to prepare them more for those situations, so we take care of the basketball better. We had good effort getting back into the game.”

Nocerini said it was evident both teams had not played for more than two weeks.

On Monday, Norway hosts West Iron and Forest Park visits Kingsford.
