CRYSTAL FALLS — Lexi Gussert’s No. 22 will be retired Friday by Forest Park High School.

Gussert scored a UP record 2,630 points during a sterling four-year career with the Lady Trojans basketball program.

“This is truly an honor,” Gussert said on social media. “I’m looking forward to thanking you all again for helping make my dreams become a reality with the sport that’s shaped my life.”

The ceremony will take place before the varsity game pitting Forest Park and rival West Iron County.

Gussert, Michigan’s Miss Basketball in 2014, is the first Forest Park player to have a number retired. The daughter of Scott and Kathy Gussert played four years at Michigan State and is a graduate assistant this season with the Spartans.

A four-year starter and three-year captain for coach Jeff Syrjanen’s tenure, Gussert was named Michigan’s Associated Press Class D Player of the Year for two seasons and all-state for three. She was a two-time winner of the UP Class D Player of the Year award and a three-time MVP of the Skyline Conference.

Gussert led Forest Park to the 2014 Class D state runner-up, ending the season with a 27-1 record.

Gussert finished with the fourth-most points in Michigan high school history, closing her career with a 25.5 points per game average.

As a senior, she averaged 28.4 points, 12 rebounds and 7.4 assists. Gussert broke the Michigan high school single-season 3-point field goal record with 105.

She scored 739 points her senior season, No. 14 on Michigan’s single-season scoring list, and she also holds the No. 5 spot with 809 points as a junior.

Gussert netted a career-high 50 points in a 2013 game against Rapid River.

She also ranks tied for 10th in career games (104) and 13th career rebounds (1,108) in Michigan high school basketball.

As a junior, averaged 32.5 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.9 steals.
