Boys Basketball: Carney triples down Nordics

Boys Basketball

CARNEY — Carney-Nadeau’s hot start led to a 56-45 win over North Dickinson in Skyline Central Conference boys basketball Friday.

The Wolves jumped to a 21-6 lead, scoring from long range. “They had five threes in the first quarter,” said North Dickinson coach Chris Mattson. “Eight of their 10 threes came in the first half.”

The Nordics (8-9, 5-4) trailed 34-17 at halftime, but outscored the hosts after that. “I was happy with the (second half) effort,” Mattson said. “We really emphasized defending the three.”

Cameron Shultz, who drained four triples, led the Nordics with 14 points. Joe Roell added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

North Dickinson committed 20 turnovers, mostly in the first half. “We weren’t being strong with the ball and they took advantage,” Mattson said.

Beau Koffman scored 15 points to lead Carney-Nadeau.

The Wolves JVs won 54-35, despite 23 points from North Dickinson’s Tucker Mattson.

The Nordics have three home games next week: Tuesday, Republic-Michigamme; Wednesday, North Central; and Friday, Rapid River.
