Boys Basketball: ‘Sloppy’ Wykons bow

Boys Basketball

IRON RIVER — West Iron made all 11 of its free throws but it wasn’t enough in a 54-50 West PAC Conference loss to L’Anse on Friday.

“They just out-efforted us,” said Wykons coach Dan Schive. L’Anse led 25-24 at halftime and the Wykons stayed within striking range until the final buzzer.

“You can’t lose the fouls, the rebounding and the loose ball battles and still win,” Schive said. “L’Anse shot well in the first half and we did a good job to stay with them, but in the second half we got sloppy.”

The Wykons (8-7, 5-5) committed 19 fouls with James Swanson and Brayden Nelson fouling out. Swanson led the scoring with 13 points and Nathan Thomson chipped in 11.

Louie Bogda led the Purple Hornets with 18 points.

West Iron won the JV game.
