Boys basketball: Trojans edge Wolves in 2OT

CRYSTAL FALLS — Tommy Peltoma willed Forest Park with a double-double night in a 68-65 double-overtime win over Carney-Nadeau.

The Trojans (9-11) got a couple late fourth quarter putbacks by Peltoma to force overtime on Senior Night. He finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Riley Hendrickson led Forest Park with 18 points including four 3-pointers.

“The overtime’s just went back and forth. We went up two, tie, they’d go up two, tie,” Forest Park head coach Chris Nocerini said. “It was just coming down to maybe who could pull ahead by four would end up winning it. We ended up doing that. Max Nylund just did an outstanding job defensively on Brett LaFord. Carney had an opportunity to win the game under 20 seconds to go. Max Nylund did a great job on Brett not allowing him to get the ball. Keall Emmers did a great job guarding Max Baulmer.”

LaFord paced the Wolves with 29 points.

The Trojans limited Carney-Nadeau’s offense to three points in the second half for a 23-18 halftime lead. Nocerini attributed the defensive performance throughout the night to the energy brought on by Senior Night.

“It was an exciting night tonight because it was Senior Night,” he said. “Our seniors Jacob Peterson, Sean Caron did a nice job tonight for us off the bench. They brought us a lot of energy. I was very excited for them. We carrried that defense right into the fourth quarter off that energy in the first quarter. We stumbled a bit in that third quarter but we made some adjustments. Any time you can hold Carney to three points, your kids are playing with energy and effort.”

Forest Park JV won.

In the Division 4 District 99 tournament, Forest Park hosts the winner of North Dickinson and Republic Michigamme at 5 p.m. CST Wednesday.
