ScuttleBu(r)t …

Rick Rosinski’s coaching principles have changed over the past 12 years with the Green Bay East boys basketball program.

Winning used to be the primary objective.

“As things have changed, my philosophy has kind of almost changed like, ‘Hey, it’s not about winning anymore.’ Yeah, we want to win, but it’s more what can you do to help the kids,” Rosinski told Scott Venci of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “There are so many challenges we face, and I think that’s probably what has continued to make me do it. How can you help the kids?”

Rosinski’s helping others philosophy brought about the seventh annual “Silent Night” fundraiser for the homeless. The 2018 event garnered $12,000.

“What a lot of people in this area fail to realize is we have a lot of kids in this community that, not only themselves, but their families are in need of basic items,” said Rosinski, nephew of Iron Mountain’s Don and Tom Sericati. “If Silent Night can kind of help offset some of those things the family needs, it’s a tremendous help.”

Rosinski is assisted by 1985 Kingsford High School grad Tony Calo. East’s junior varsity coach once guided Osseo-Fairchild’s girls to the 2007 WIAA Division 3 state tournament. Tony can be found officiating UP high school football in the fall. He’s also remembered as co-director of the Jamie Angeli Camp of Champs.

East, looking for its first winning season since 2011, takes a 10-12 record into the WIAA regionals. The Red Devils started this campaign 0-6 …

From Dwight Perry, Seattle Times: “The boys basketball team at tiny Power (Mont.) High School features three sets of twins on its 10-player roster.

“In other words, a triple-double.”

If Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ continues to struggle at the free throw line, I’d suggest Bucky bring in Roger LeDuc to teach Virgil Sweet’s 20-step method.

The basics have players look over the ball at the basket and place the middle finger just below the air valve,

Roger’s Flivvers couldn’t miss free throws when they applied Virgil Sweet’s principles …

Former St. Ignace coach Charlie Otlewski has been named to the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Otlewski, close to 200 career wins, left St. Ignace for Haslett in 1994 …

I read a couple of the initial chapters on-line from Howard Schultz’s book “From The Ground Up.” Maybe it’s somewhere later in the book but the Starbucks boss and presidential hopeful didn’t mention his time with the Northern Michigan University football team …
