Soccer: Flivvers fall to Houghton

KINGSFORD — Kingsford dominated on the field but lost on the scoreboard in a 1-0 setback to Houghton in girls soccer Thursday at Commemorative Field.

The Flivvers outshot the Gremlins 24-1.

“We outshot them 24-1 and lost 0-1. “I’m not sure if that’s ever happened in the whole history of soccer,” said Kingsford coach Jon Lorenzoni of the shot differential and final score. “It’s very frustrating. The girls work hard. They’re trying. It’s not effort.”

Houghton scored with 14 minutes left in the game on a through ball.

“We had one breakdown the whole game and Houghton capitalized,” Lorenzoni said. “We controlled play and kept pressure on Houghton throughout the game.”

The Flivvers (0-2) and Iron Mountain meet Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m.
