Tennis: IM seeks better showing in 2019 after sub-par ‘18

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain boys tennis looks to rebound after a sub-par showing in 2018.

“I know that some of them have been dwelling on some losses last year which is making them stronger and giving them the drive to win this year,” said IM coach Tony Tatangelo, assisted by Maddy McCormick, and Chris Colavecchi.

The Mountaineers graduated just one player from last year and return All-UP Division 2 honorable mention singles Ryan Hakamaki along with doubles Dakota Galeazzi and Joey Bogaudo.

IM also returns Michael Colavecchi, Max Fornetti, Aiden VanPembrook, Kurtis Reath, Shane Brooks, Dominic Schinderle and Blake Julian.

“We are still a relative young team but we have some experience which will allow us to compete,” Tatangelo said. “My boys have been eager to get out and hit and have been taking practice seriously which makes it fun.”

Mountaineers are scheduled to host Westwood on Tuesday.

This year’s roster:

SENIORS — Dakota Galeazzi, Jaden Vicenzi, Joey Bogaudo, Kurtis Reath, Shane Brooks

JUNIORS — Ryan Hakamaki, Michael Colavecchi

SOPHOMORES — Max Fornetti, Aiden VanPembrook, Dominic Schinderle, Blake Julian

FRESHMEN — David Juul, Brenden LaPoint, Gabe Richtig, Kurt Ryan
