Softball: Mountaineers wallop Gwinn

GWINN – Iron Mountain racked up a combined 26 hits and 40 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Gwinn on Friday.

The Mountaineers (10-4) won by scores of 21-3 and 19-3.

Just 17 of Iron Mountain’s runs were earned, as the Modeltowners’ defense made 15 errors.

Iron Mountain scored six in the second and eight in the fourth to bury the game.

Annslee Runsat was 3 for 5 with two triples and two RBIs. Claire Mongrain was 2 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Ella Fortner had a three RBI-double. Mackenzie Swanson had three RBIs. Emma Thomann had two RBIs.

Mongrain and Hannah Proudfit pitched for the Mountaineers. They gave up a combined three runs on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

The second game was more of the same.

Iron Mountain scored 12 runs in the second to take a 15-0 lead.

Jorden Stoner was 2 for 3 with four RBIs. Swanson had two singles and two RBIs. Saylor Swartout and Runsat also had RBIs.

Mongrain pitched for the Mountaineers and gave up three runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Iron Mountain visits Westwood on Monday.
