Kingsford’s Gravel headed to Toronto

Websites indicate one-year contract

KEVIN GRAVEL

IRON MOUNTAIN — Free agent Kevin Gravel of Kingsford will be joining his third National Hockey League team for the 2019-2020 season.

Multiple websites are reporting that Gravel has signed a one-year, one-way contract for $700,000 with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The left-shot defenseman played last season with the Edmonton Oilers after spending the previous three with the Los Angeles Kings.

Gravel “had a really solid season as a No. 7 defenseman (for the Oilers),” reported Jonathan Willis of The Athletic.

The 6-foot-4 Gravel had three assists in 36 games with Edmonton last year. For his career, Gravel has one goal and 12 assists in 106 career games.

Gravel was originally drafted in the fifth round, 148th overall of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Kings. He starred at St. Cloud State (Minn.) University.

Gravel, 27, also played last season with Bakersfield of the AHL. He could see playing time this season with the Leafs’ AHL affiliate the Toronto Marlies.
