Busy week for Wykons tennis

Hosting Gwinn for fourth match in as many days this afternoon

IRON RIVER — In Great Northern Conference girls tennis action Wednesday, the West Iron County Lady Wykons welcomed the Gladstone Lady Braves, for a match rescheduled from Sept. 5. The teams played to a 4-4 tie on the afternoon.

Notching victories for West Iron were No. 4 singles player Olivia Prudhomme 6-4, 6-2, along with the top three doubles flights: No. 1 doubles Eden Golliher-Tori Bociek 6-0, 6-1; No.2 Emily Nelson, Anna Malmquist 6-1, 6-2; and No. 3 Aurora Dahl-Madison Berutti-Kat Hemeleski, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2.

On Monday, the Wykons split with Menominee 4-4.

“Monday matches are always very difficult, plus we had to make a very long trip to Menominee,” WIC head coach Joe Serbentas noted. “Our No. 4 doubles team’s victory secured a tie for us on the day.”

The Wykons were also in action Tuesday, dropping Ironwood 8-0.
