Flivvers notch first ‘W’
SHIOCTON, Wis. — Kingsford got its first victory under new head coach Mark Novara, shaking off an up-and-down first half to defeat Shiocton 35-14 in non-conference football Friday.
Tyler Kopp completed 10 of 15 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns for the Flivvers, who scored 21 unanswered points in the second half.
Leading 14-0 just three minutes into the game, Kingsford found itself tied at 14 at halftime.
Kopp broke the game open with a pair of scoring passes in the third quarter — a 32-yarder to Carter Kreski and a 44-yard bomb to Hunter Bilgreen. Logan Normand led Kingsford’s ground game, carrying 19 times for 100 yards and a touchdown.
Kingsford scored on its first possession of the game when Kopp hit Carter Stanchina with a 27-yard strike. A minute later, Chris Carollo stripped a Chiefs ballcarrier and ran 20 yards for Kingsford’s second TD.
The Flivvers’ would-be rout cooled, however, with Shiocton (1-2) mounting a pair of second quarter drives to knot the score.
Kingsford (1-1) totaled 95 yards in penalties. They’ll host Hortonville, Wis., on Friday.
