Girls tennis — Wykons sweep Gwinn in final home match

STAMBAUGH — In their last home tennis match of the season, the West Iron County Lady Wykons swept Gwinn 8-0 at the Nelson Field courts.

Wykons head coach Joe Serbentas was pleased with his team’s performance after four straight days of play this week. “Nice way to end dual match season,” he said. “Now, we have the big tourneys to prepare for — the team is gaining confidence down the stretch.”

The tournaments are the Great Northern Conference meet on Wednesday at Kingsford and the U.P. Finals Oct. 2 at Iron Mountain, both at 9 a.m.

SINGLES: No. 1 Livea Mazurek WIC def. Joleigh Martinez G 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 Kali Dennis WIC def. Ashley Scott G 6-3, 6-1; No. 3 Kali Applin WIC def. Lily Kerry G 6-3, 6-3; No. 4 Olivia Prudhomme WIC def. Desinee Stanton G 6-2, 6-0.

DOUBLES: No. 1 Eden Golliher-Tori Bociek WIC def. Raina Humphrey-Kadie LaRock G 6-2, 6-0; No. 2 Emily Nelson-Anna Malmquist WIC def. Karlee Walker-Emily Curtice G 6-2, 6-1; No. 3 Aurora Dahl-Madison Berutti WIC def. Amaya Cornelius-Macenzie Malette G 6-2, 6-0; No. 4 Kat Hemelski-Alyssa Dominici WIC def.
