Knights record shut out

MUNISING — Norway earned its first victory under new head coach Scott Popp, shutting out Munising 14-0 in West Pac football Friday.

“The defense really came out to play,” said Popp, whose Knights grabbed the lead in the second quarter on a 60-yard sweep by Ethan Sabotta.

Norway quarterback Nathan Paulitch added a TD on a 4-yard run in the third quarter.

Parker Lasater was credited with 12 tackles while defensive end Kody Hendricks frustrated the Mustangs throughout the night. “He contained everything,” Popp said. Zachary Seat had an interception.

Swoboda was the leading rusher with 82 yards on just four carries while Isaac Hautamaki had 80 yards in 20 trips. Evan Anderson had six carries for 25 yards.

Paulitch completed 3 of 4 passes for 49 yards and found Hendricks for a conversion after Swoboda’s score.

The Knights (1-1) will host Ishpeming on Friday.
