Broncos down Knights in Skyline volleyball
HARRIS — The Bark River-Harris Broncos used a balanced effort to upend Norway 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-23) in a Skyline Central Conference volleyball contest here Tuesday.
The Broncos (6-1) rolled to wins with relative ease in the first two sets while using a 100 percent serve percentage in the first set before hanging on to win a close one to complete the sweep.
Makena Lockwood led BR-H with seven kills, six digs and two blocks while Kassidy Roll added six kills and two blocks on her birthday. Ives and Lexi Berg each had four kills while Alaska Peterson had 19 assists and Britton came up with seven digs.
“We had more missed serves tonight than usual, but the girls played well together,” said Norway coach Erika Harnden. “I’ve really been on the team as far as attacking the ball from the back row, and they did a better job of that tonight. The girls started to build momentum, but Bark River came out with the points to win.”
BR-H’s jayvee team fell for the first time this year, dropping a 2-1 decision to Norway.
Norway’s next scheduled game, Thursday, Oct. 3 at Big Bay de Noc has been canceled. High School Principal and Athletic Director Joe Tinti said the non-conference match had to be canceled due to Big Bay’s scheduling commitments to Northern Lights Conference that they are now a member of, beginning this fall.
“On our end, keeping the game on our schedule despite them dropping out of the Skyline conference was fine. They had to drop us and we totally understand, so we no longer play them in any sport” said Tinti.
The open date on the schedule leaves the Knights off until they travel to Skyline Conference foe North Central on Monday, Oct. 7.
