DAHA: Last chance registration Thursday

IRON MOUNTAIN – Dickinson Amateur Hockey Association is holding a last-chance registration for the upcoming 2019-20 season on Thursday, October 17 from 5-7 p.m. at Mountain View Ice Arena.

DAHA is one of the lowest-cost youth hockey programs in the U.P. and offers families the opportunity to recoup some registration costs through various fundraising activities. Registered DAHA players also have access to a selection of free equipment to use.

The season runs through March and includes at least two one-hour practices per week in addition to games.

“If you consider the length of the season, it averages out to around $25 a week to play hockey,” a league spokesperson noted. “We’re fortunate to be able to offer our kids a tremendous amount of ice time and instruction at a really affordable price.”

DAHA anticipates having enough registered kids at the mite level (8 and under) to conduct an in-house league this season, eliminating the need to travel for games. The association also plans to offer a free learn to play program later this fall.

The youth hockey season officially opened last weekend at Mountain View, as a 12 and under DAHA squad hosted a Marquette Pee Wee A team.

Jacob Deuter led DAHA in the opener, netting three goals in DAHA’s 5-2 victory. Evan Moyer and Anna Debidart also had goals for the Iron Kings. Will Murvich and Jaxon Buckley each notched two assists.

The second game wound up a 4-4 draw. Deuter and Jake Powell opened the scoring for DAHA. Buckley added a pair of breakaway markers for the final two DAHA tallies. Assists in game two went to Moyer, Jack Supanich and Powell.

Nathan Scullon and Alex Hemgren split time in net for the Iron Kings.

The DAHA Pee Wee AA team, sponsored by 41 Lumber, hosts Houghton for a pair of games Saturday.
