Flivver freshmen still unbeaten

KINGSFORD — The Kingsford freshmen football team beat Gladstone Thursday 49-6 behind two rushing touchdowns each from Trent Maki and Nic Nora.

Maki totaled 68 rushing yards. Cole Myllyla and Josh Peterson both ran for one touchdown.

Peterson, Bryce Wenzel, Gavin Flynn, and Jacob Sarri all had interceptions. Peterson also ran back a 70-yard kickoff return for a score.

Head coach Jim Myllyla’s squad, now with a 5-0-1 record, will play Redwing, Minn. JV at home on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The Kingsford frosh had a great battle with Escanaba on Sept. 26, finishing in a 14-14 tie. Cole Myllyla rushed for 106 yards with one touchdown. Nora threw for 62 yards with a great completion to Bryce Wenzel to get within two points. Jack Bartolac scored on the two-point conversion.

The defense played well the whole game. Escanaba busted a big play right before half and early in the third to score on both plays.
