Jets suffer volleyball sweep at Stephenson

STEPHENSON — The Stephenson volleyball team made easy work of the North Central Jets on Tuesday in a 3-0 sweep at the Lady Eagles annual Pink Night fundraiser to raise money for the Barb Palzewic Hope memorial relay fund.

The fundraiser, which included 50/50 raffles, t-shirt sales and a number of bucket raffles, raised over $900 for the Hope memorial that helps alleviate the burden that can be placed on cancer patients and their families.

Stephenson dominated all three games after not playing for over a week, winning by scores of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-6 in the finale with the help of strong all-around play.

“Pink Night is of course always a big night for the girls and the community. Our theme for the night was ‘Unite for the Fight’ and that’s been one of our mottos all season long,” Stephenson coach Sara Johnson said. “I have 13 girls and every one of them knows their part and they all got to play tonight which was exciting for me as a coach. They train for months and then sometimes some of them don’t get to show what they’ve worked at, but tonight we got to do that so that was good. For not playing a match in over a week I was really happy and proud of the way the girls came out and picked up right where they left off.”

The Jets visit Rapid River tonight.
