Late score lifts Knights

Norway edges Gwinn 28-20 in West PAC contest

GWINN — Josh Gendron scored on a seven-yard run with less than two minutes remaining to lift Norway past Gwinn 28-20 in a West PAC Iron Division game Friday.

Gendron’s TD broke a 20-20 tie that had held since halftime. A conversion pass from Gannon Bray to Kody Hendricks was the final cushion.

“Our backs ran the ball hard all night,” said Norway coach Scott Popp. “We changed up our defense in the first half and it was solid the rest of the game.”

Bray scored on a one-yard dive in the second quarter to knot the game 6-6, but two unanswered TDs put the Knights behind 20-6.

Norway rallied with Bray connecting on a 39-yard TD pass to Ethan Sabotta followed by a 25-yard scoring toss to Zachary Seat at the halftime buzzer. A conversion pass to Evan Anderson pulled the Knights even.

Norway (2-5, 2-3) dressed just 14 players.

“We had an awesome week of practice, which showed on the field because the kids played with heart,” Popp said. “There have been some things in games that have gone against us that went our way tonight.”

The Knights travel to Manistique on Friday.

Norway 0 20 0 8 — 28

Gwinn 6 14 0 0 — 20
