Bobcats football coach receives 8-player award
FLORENCE, Wis — Florence’s Kent Walstrom has been named MONLPC 8 (Marinette-Oconto-Northern Lakes-Packerland Conference) Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.
In 2019, Florence finished tied for second place in the nine-team MONLPC with a 6-2 conference record. The Bobcats beat conference co-champion Gibraltar week 1 of the regular season and avenged a regular season loss to co-second place Laona-Wabeno in the playoffs.
Florence advanced to a Level 2 game, losing to No. 1 seed Shell Lake and finishing 8-3 overall.
The Bobcats led the conference in points scored despite a 1-0 forfeit win over Green Bay NEW Lutheran, while also leading the conference in least points allowed as well.
With a three-year average of 108 students, Florence has the lowest enrollment of schools in the MONLPC 8 Conference. The Bobcats have a 15-5 overall record and two playoff appearances since joining eight-man football two seasons ago.
