Flivvers blast Miners

Win 6-1 to even record at 3-3

NEGAUNEE — Behind four second-period goals, two of them by Trey Bociek, Kingsford cruised past Negaunee 6-1 in Great Lakes Hockey Conference action at the Negaunee Ice Arena on Monday night.

“Our effort level was better tonight, and our puck movement was much better, especially on the power plays,” said Kingsford head coach Greg Wadge.

Negaunee got on the scoreboard first at the 9:25 mark of the first period to go ahead 1-0. However, it was a lead that only lasted 35 seconds, as Nick Saari scored his first of two goals on the evening to tie the score.

The aforementioned two second period goals from Bociek were followed by tallies from Colin Watkins and Saari’s second goal of the contest. Going in to the locker room at second intermission, Kingsford led 5-1.

A third-period goal by Carter Kreski put the Flivvers ahead 6-1 at 6:56 in the period.

The Flivvers (3-3), outshot the Miners 36-21, with goalie Evan Hedtke making 20 saves. Ethan Fox had three assists.

“The only thing I can point to tonight is our amount of time in the penalty box,” Wadge said. “We need to play more disciplined.”

Kingsford’s next game will be on Thursday night, when the Marquette Redmen invade the Mountain View Ice Arena for a Great Lakes Hockey Conference matchup.
