Mountaineers look for improvement

WEST ISHPEMING — Iron Mountain participated in the Westwood Super Duals Saturday, posting a 2-3 team record.

“It was a tough day for us on the mats but we will get better from here on out,” said IM head coach Cory McLaren. “We will see all these teams again and will try and improve as a team.”

Iron Mountain defeated Gwinn (39-15) and Bark River (48-36) but fell to Negaunee (42-35), Marquette (33-27) and Westwood (42-23).

Undefeated wrestlers on the day for the Mountaineers were Isaac Mainer (130 pounds), Parker Stroud (135) and Caleb Burklund (189). Manier and Stroud went 5-0, while Burklund posted a 4-0 record.

Shawn McGuire (112), Bradon Farragh (171) and Even Haferkorn (160) each went 4-1. Brent Aman (160) was 3-2.

The Mountaineers will have a busy week, beginning tonight at 5 p.m. at Kingsford for a quad. IM hosts Negaunee, Gladstone and Marquette Thursday at the Central Middle School, also beginning at 5 p.m.
