Redmen hold off Flivvers

IRON MOUNTAIN — Marquette skated to a 3-1 Great Lakes Hockey Conference victory over Kingsford Thursday at Mountain View Ice Arena.

“Effort level was really good and team played hard,” said Kingsford head coach Greg Wadge. “Evan Hedtke was solid in goal for us tonight. We still need to keep ourselves out of the penalty box.”

Marquette scored first in the contest, a first-period shorthanded goal by Jacob Peterson. Gaetano Cammarata put Marquette ahead 2-0 early in the second period on a goal assisted by Copper Anderson and Ansel Frost.

Kingsford made it 2-1 in the third with a tally by Hunter Fortner. Tyler Bengtson was credited with an assist.

Andrew Fedrizzi’s power play goal pushed the margin back to two for the Redmen.

Kingsford (3-4) is off until Saturday, Dec. 28-29, when they take part in the Marquette Holiday Tournament at Lakeview Arena, taking on Sault Ste. Marie and Canton.

Starting at $3.50/week.
