IRON MOUNTAIN — Playing on home ice for the first time in nearly a month, Kingsford extended its winning streak to three games with a 5-2 win over Hancock Tuesday night at Mountain View Ice Arena.

Five different players scored goals in the Great Lakes Hockey Conference contest for the Flivvers, who improved to 8-7 on the year.

“The first period, we played great hockey, and our compete level was high throughout the game,” said Kingsford head coach Greg Wadge.

Kingsford took a 2-0 lead after one period with goals by David Juul and Nick Saari.

“Then the second period came, and we had entirely too many penalties,” Wadge said.

Those penalties wound up costing Kingsford, as both of Hancock’s goals came with the man advantage.

But the Flivvers never trailed, as Colin Watkins scored in the second frame. In the third, Trey Bociek and Hunter Fortner lit the lamp.

Bociek also had two assists in the game.

The Flivvers outshot Hancock in every period, with a total of 42 shots to the Bulldogs’ 28.

“Evan Hedtke was solid between the pipes for us again tonight,” said Wadge.

Wadge noted that it will be nice to have six days to prepare and rest for Marquette. The Flivvers take on the Redmen Tuesday at Lakeview Arena.
