Boys Basketball – Nordics fall to Hawks

SOUTH REPUBLIC — Eli Luokkala led all scorers with 14 points and teammate Logan Hanninen added 12 points, as Republic-Michigamme slipped past North Dickinson 49-42 in a low-scoring Skyline Central Conference boys basketball game here Tuesday night.

“We played a good first quarter tonight, but then stopped playing on offense,” said North Dickinson head coach Chris Mattson. “Scoring five or six points per quarter isn’t going to win games, and we also didn’t share the ball enough tonight.”

Justin Slagle led the Nordics with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Maximus Mattson netted 13 points.

“I was pleased with our defensive effort tonight, holding R-M under 50 points,” coach Mattson said. “However, our free-throw shooting was unacceptable.”

North Dickinson fell to 4-13 on the season and returns to action at Rapid River on Friday.

ND won the JV game, 45-32.
