Florence girls bow to Elcho in opener

ELCHO, Wis — A game-high 18 points from Elcho’s Katie Slowik was too much to overcome, as the Florence LadyCats season ended Tuesday night in Round 1 of the WIAA Division 5 playoffs by a score of 40-25.

“We had a hard time in the first half containing Katie Slowik, but stuck with them and got within two points late in the first half,” said Florence head coach Brad Perry.

“We used a box and one defense with Faith Neuens on Slowik in the second half. She did a great job containing Slowik to three points in the half,” Perry said.

The second half was slowed-paced, with minimal scoring from both teams, Perry noted.

“We had a hard time scoring all night,” Perry said. “I couldn’t be happier and prouder of the girls and all of the work they put in this season. I am going to miss all of my seniors very much.”

The LadyCats seniors are Kathleen Sledon, Madison Neuens, Haley Berhmann, Jenna and Jordyn Springer, and student assistant coach Kendra Milan.

Milan missed the entire season due to an injury suffered during volleyball season.
