Kriegl honored as Great Northern Conference’s top defensive player
Niagara’s Weber a honorable mention
ESCANABA – Kingsford senior Brooke Kriegl was named Great Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, as announced by league coaches.
Kriegl, also selected to the league’s all-conference first team, averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3 steals in seven GNC games this season.
Joining Kriegl on the first team were juniors Erin Barrette of Menominee, Megan Crow of Gladstone and Nicole Kamin of Escanaba. Marquette senior Aspen Michelin was also a first team selection.
Kingsford senior Maggie Strehlow was a second team selection. Joining Strehlow on the second team were seniors Maddie Ahlgren of Gladstone, Maddie Carter of Marquette and Taylor Ray of Escanaba. Menominee junior Jenna Nolde and Marquette sophomore Maria Millado rounded out the second team.
Senior Ali Doolittle of the Flivvers was named to the All Defensive Team. Nolde, Kamin, Michelin and Balenger joined Doolittle on the defensive squad.
Kingsford senior Christy Glodowski and Doolittle were named honorable mentions.
GNC Coach of the Year selection was Lucas Chouinard of Menominee, who led the Maroons to a 20-0 overall record and the GNC championship. Maroons junior center Emma Anderson was named Player of the Year.
The GNC girls basketball coaches met Monday at the Family Inn Restaurant.
Niagara's Weber a honorable mention
CRIVITZ, Wis. — Niagara senior Josh Weber was honorable mention on the M&O All-Conference boys basketball team.
Crivitz senior Jaden Werner was named conference Player of the Year, while junior Cayden Bintz of Coleman was named Defensive Player of the Year. Werner and Bintz were also named to the first team, along with Hayden Renikow of Wausaukee, Dawson Andrist of Crivitz and Payton Nelson of Coleman.
Second team selections were Eian Baumann of Crivitz, Max Beyer of Lena, Logan Block of Gillett, Tristin Pollard of Wausaukee and Nick Teteak of Coleman.
The 2019-2020 Marinette-Oconto Conference Boys Basketball All-Conference meeting was held on March 1 at the Gateway Bar and Grill.
