KHS girls, Norway boys take golf meet
Mountaineers’ Verrette, Flivvers’ Solda medalists at Pine Grove
IRON MOUNTAIN — An all Dickinson County nine-hole high school golf meet was won by the Norway boys and the Kingsford girls Monday afternoon at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain.
The host Mountaineers also competed in both boys and girls, as did the Flivvers. Norway doesn’t have a girls golf team this spring.
On the girls side, Iron Mountain’s Lily Verrette was medalist with a low score of 56. Natalia Brown of Iron Mountain and Bryonna Sanders of Kingsford both shot a 59, which tied for runner-up.
Kingsford’s team score of 250 was four shots better than the Mountaineers 254.
On the boys side, there was a three-way tie after nine holes for medalist. Kingsford’s Matt Solda, along with Carson Chartier and Jeffrey VanHolla each carded a 38.
It was Solda who birdied hole No. 1 in a playoff to take medalist.
The Knight’s 162 was seven shots better than runner-up Kingsford’s 169.
Norway returns to action today at Indian Hills in Menominee County.
Kingsford travels to Marquette on Monday. Iron Mountain hosts a three-team event at Pine Grove on the same day.
