NEGAUNEE — The No. 1 team in each poll was a unanimous selection as the first Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters U.P. Football poll of the 2021 season was released on Monday.

Undefeated and defending MHSAA Division 2 8-player state champion North Central is the No. 1 team on the 8-player side. The Jets are also the No. 1-ranked team in the state in the first AP Prep State Football Poll in all of 8-player, which was also released on Monday.

The Kingsford Flivvers, who like the Jets, are undefeated at 3-0, are the No. 1 team in the 11-player ranks. The Flivvers are ranked No. 6 in the AP Division 5 state poll.

The 3-0 Forest Park Trojans and head coach Brian Fabbri came in at No. 4 in the 8-player poll. Forest Park slipped past Ontonagon, 62-60 in 2OT Friday night at Dick Mettlach Field, and the Gladiators received votes from the voting panel.

The Trojans are ranked No. 10 in the AP 8-player state poll, while Pickford is tied for No. 8 with Colon. Both Pickford and Colon were crowned MHSAA 8-player state champions in 2019.

Eleven-player No. 3 Marquette hosts the No. 1 Flivvers Friday night in a Great Northern Conference clash.

The five-voter panel for the 2021 football season is: Jason Juno, Ironwood Daily Globe; Rob Roos of the Sault Evening News; John Vrancic of the Escanaba Daily Press; Mike Ludlum of WLUC-TV6 and Matt “Sweets” McCarthy of the Iron Mountain Daily News.
