GWINN — In a dual conference match, host Gwinn defeated Iron Mountain, 3-2 (25-22, 15-25, 25-19, 24-26, 16-14) in Mid-Peninsula and West PAC Conference action on Tuesday.

“We had a very strong second set getting out to a 13-point lead,” said Mountaineers head coach Jeanne Newberry. “We had strong serving tonight and good play at the net. Although we lost the match, we’re moving forward as a team.”

The Mountaineers won the jayvee match, 2-1.

“I am looking forward to our matchup at Hancock, followed with our senior night back home with Westwood. It will also be a cure for the cancer night,” Newberry added.

Iron Mountain’s match tonight at Hancock is a West PAC contest, while the regular season finale versus Westwood on Tuesday is another dual conference clash.

Also on Tuesday, Norway was defeated by Skyline Central Conference foe Carney-Nadeau, 3-0 at Carney. The Lady Knights will return to action on Tuesday when they host SCC foe Munising before traveling to North Dickinson for SCC action on Oct. 28 to wrap up the regular season for both teams.
