On a roll: IM boys bowling team stays hot

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain boys bowling team heads into the new year with an unbeaten record after defeating Ishpeming 37-3 on Dec. 18 and L’Anse 39-1 in a makeup match held in Marquette on Dec. 23.

Against the Hematites at Recreation Lanes, Iron Mountain swept both Baker games and all the match play games, losing only three individual games along the way. Dakota Jaeger paced the Mountaineers with a 543 series (195-166-182). Nolan White followed with a 527 (148-203-176) and Marcus Doucette finished with a 521 (180-188-153). Blake Flaminio threw games of 184 and 163 while Alex Reed tossed 179 and 146 and Hunter Lautzenheiser recorded games of 155 and 146.

The Iron Mountain X team fell Escanaba’s X team 30-10. The Mountaineers won the first match play game and six individual points. Zach Rankin and Daniel Arcand each won two points while David Nanninga and Aiden Bourassa chipped in a point apiece.

The Lady Mountaineers fell to the Marquette Redettes 31-9 and were led by Emily Lautzenheiser with a 366 series and 133 game.

At Superior Lanes on Dec. 23, the Mountaineers dispatched L’Anse. Both teams were tied for first place coming into the makeup match.

Pacing the Mountaineers was Marcus Doucette with a 591 series (223-180-188) with Dakota Jaeger following with a 549 (193-169-187). Blake Flaminio was next with a 527 (170-158-169) and Hunter Lautzenheiser finished with a 521 (168-171-184).

“I am very pleased with our progress so far, but we have to continue to learn and get better,” Mountaineer head coach Pete Tomassoni said.

The Mountaineer X team handled the Westwood Patriot X team, sweeping the match 40-0. Aiden Bourassa led the way for the Mountaineer X with a 464 series (165-112-187). He was followed by David Nanninga at 437, Hayden Henes at 433, Daniel Arcand and Zach Rankin at 423 and Ben Cook at 354.

The Lady Mountaineers fell to L’Anse 33.5-6.5. Emily Lautzenheiser led the three-person team with a 487 series on consistent games of 161, 163 and 163. Abby Ward chipped in with a 262 series.
