Prep Notes: JV squad cruises by Patriots 50-0

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain JV football team crushed visiting Westwood 50-0 on Aug. 31.

“This was a good team win with everyone contributing on both sides of the ball,” said Mountaineers coach Kyle Johnson. “We are off to a good start and are still looking to improve in all aspects. We are focused on our next game up in Houghton.”

Alex Jayne helped power Iron Mountain with four rushing touchdowns, three of which came on five-yard runs and another on a three-yard score.

Michael Dove broke off one of the bigger plays for the Mountaineers, scoring on a 75-yard dash, while Jacob Powell added a three-yard run for a score.

Gerald Sampoll-Torres sparked the Mountaineers’ defensive effort with a pair of interceptions, returning one 20 yards for a score.

Iron Mountain plays at Houghton on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
