Nordics erase double-digit deficit, win in OT

FELCH — Micah Lindholm scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the second half, including all five of North Dickinson’s point in overtime, as the Nordics roared back from a double-digit fourth quarter deficit to defeat Stephenson 34-31 in a Skyline Central Conference battle Thursday night at Carl F. Lemin Gymnasium.

North Dickinson trailed by 14 after the third quarter and by 10 with 4-1/2 minutes left in regulation to record its third win of the season in 12 games.

“We had a slow start,” ND coach Kirk Mattson said. “We didn’t shoot the ball very well in the first half. But we picked things up about halfway through the third quarter, and into the fourth quarter and overtime.

“Defensively, we’re doing a good job, but I think we saw in the second half what we can do to open up the offense.”

One adjustment Mattson made was to pull Lindholm out on the perimeter against the Eagles’ 3-2 zone. The senior responded with two 3-pointers and 14 points over the decisive minutes of the contest.

Apart from Lindholm’s play, the Nordics’ full-court trapping defense caused Stephenson (5-7) difficulties, which also kick started the ND offense in the fourth quarter.

The Nordics get back into action Monday when they entertain Superior Central (8-3) in another Skyline Conference matchup.
