’Cats on the prowl! Florence pummels White Lake 17-0
FLORENCE, Wis. — The Florence Bobcats left no doubt on which team would be advancing on the opening round of Thursday’s WIAA boys varsity baseball regional at Florence High School.
The host Bobcats (11-4) pummeled visiting White Lake 17-0 in five innings in the opening round varsity baseball tournament clash.
Florence dominated White Lake (1-13) both at the plate and on the mound, with Bobcat batters tallying 15 hits.
Evan Johnson (3-3, 2 Rs, 5 RBIs), William Kelley (2-3, 3 Rs, 2 RBIs), Joey Holmstom (2-2, 2 Rs, 3 RBIs) and Trent McLain (2-3, R, 2 RBIs) all had multiple hits for the Bobcats, who also benefited from eight White Lake errors.
On the mound, McLain started and fanned six, while not allowing a hit, in three innings of work.
Kelley pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and walking two, as well as striking out four.
“McLain and Kelley were very solid on the mound and our defense played well behind them,” said Florence coach Kris Johnson.
With the regional opening win in hand, the Bobcats advance to face Wausaukee (7-12) in a Level 2 clash at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
