Knights earn state, district baseball honors

NORWAY — The 2025 Norway Knights baseball team tied a program record with 28 wins and several of the players were honored recently after the team advanced to the MHSAA Division 4 state semifinals.
Four Norway players were named to the Division 4 All-State Team, three on the first team. Senior catcher Landon Amundson was selected to the first team, as were junior infielder Owen Baij and junior outfielder Cameron Varda. Senior pitcher Cole Baij was named to the second team.
The four were also named to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Division 4 All-District Team along with senior pitcher Bryce Adams and sophomore first baseman Landon Ross.
Additionally, Adams, Cole Baij and AJ Gallino qualified for the Division 4 Academic All-State Team by compiling 4.0 grade point averages. Also, Owen Baij qualified for the D4 Academic All-Regional Team (a minimum GPA of 3.75).
The academic honors required a minimum of five completed high school semesters.
Norway also announced its team awards. Amundson and Cole Baij were named co-Most Valuable Players, Owen Baij won the Silver Slugger award, Adams won the King of Arms award, Varda won the Gold Glove award and Gallino won the Coaches Choice award.
The Norway baseball class of 2025 also set program records for career wins with 97, games played with 123 and winning percentage of .789.
