Kingsford had two narrow losses in pool play and failed to advance to the single-elimination round of the Michigan Little League state Minors tournament for ages 8-10.

Kingsford opened with a 9-2 loss to Edwardsburg on Saturday and then fell to Birmingham 7-5 on Sunday. On Monday, Kingsford was nipped 4-3 by tournament host Tecumseh.

Both Birmingham and Tecumseh advanced to the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated Tuesday by St. Clair and Hudsonville. The tournament championship will be decided Thursday.

Marquette was also unable to advance beyond pool play, falling to Ypsi-Arbor American 13-2, South Portage 14-4 and Bullock Creek 6-3.
