Hortonville prevails in closely contested Felch tournament

Hortonville, Wis., repeated as champions of the Felch Labor Day Championship baseball tourney, taking the title Monday with a 7-3 win over Fox Cities.

After losing its opener 4-2 to Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday, Hortonville came back to win four straight games.

Hortonville’s Logan Locy of New London, Wis., was named the MVP pitcher and hitter. He tossed 13 innings and earned two wins. At the plate, Locy collected nine hits over five games.

“The tournament was a huge success, thanks to Mother Nature and all of the wonderful fans that support our tournament,” said coordinator John Benzie.

Ray Timmer — 96 years young — was inducted into the Felch Hall of Fame as “fan of the year.” Also inducted into the Felch Hall of Fame were Bob Davidson and Jim Edberg as “all-time greats.”

The four-day tournament had four extra-inning games, including Fox Cities winning 4-3 in eight innings over Trout Creek in a thrilling semifinal.
