Flivvers defeated in district FB final

WEST BRANCH — The Kingsford Flivvers began their MHSAA Division 5 District 33 championship game against Ogemaw Heights looking like, well, the Flivvers.

After Chace Jungles returned the opening kickoff to the 40-yard line, Kingsford marched the ball down the field, mostly on the ground, and scored a touchdown when Jake Lockhart bulled over from the 3-yard line to give the Flivvers a 6-0 lead midway through the opening quarter.

But after that opening drive, the Flivvers looked anything like the Flivvers.

The host Falcons took over both sides of the line of scrimmage after the opening score, forced four Kingsford interceptions and rolled to a 41-6 victory.

Connor Lambert scored three first-half touchdowns as the Falcons (10-1) rebounded from Kingsford’s early touchdown to take a 20-6 lead into the halftime break.

The Flivvers recovered their onside kick to begin the second half, but Falcons’ defensive back Corie Kanitz picked off a pass and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown to slam the door on any U.P. momentum.

After the 2-point conversion, Ogemaw Heights had a 28-6 advantage, and the Flivvers were on their way out of the 2025 playoffs.

Kanitz finished with three interceptions and scored both a rushing and receiving touchdown.

Meanwhile, after the first drive, the Falcons stymied the Flivver offense and allowed around 100 yards of total offense for the game to win their first district title since 2012.

Ogemaw Heights moves on to face Saginaw Swan Valley (10-1) in a Regional 17 clash Saturday in Saginaw.

The Flivvers close their season with a 7-4 record.

Starting at $3.50/week.
