Florence volleyball is state-bound

The Florence LadyCats made history Saturday, advancing to their first WIAA state tournament with a 3-1 win over Waupun Central Wisconsin Christian.

Florence will face top-seeded Wausau Newman Catholic at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Resch Center in Green Bay. St. Amrose will face Rib Lake in the other semifinal.

The championship is at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Playing at Northland Pines High School in Eagle River, Florence defeated Central Wisconsin Christian 25-23, 30-28, 21-25, 25-17 to earn the school’s first volleyball sectional crown.

Newman Catholic, meanwhile, reached the state semifinals with a 3-1 win over Highland — 20-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.

In the 2024 WIAA tournament, Florence bowed to Newman Catholic 25-16, 25-11, 24-26, 25-11 in a Division 5 sectional championship match.
