Olson named GNC player of the year

KINGSFORD – Kingsford senior middle hitter Cassie Olson was named the Great Northern Conference player of the year in a recent vote by league coaches.
Olson helped lead the Flivvers to an 8-0 conference record and to their fourth consecutive district championship.
Kingsford put three players on the first team – junior outside hitter Mylee Kreider, junior right-side hitter Mya Brunswick and freshman setter/right-side hitter Mckynzee Kreider.
Senior setter Karly Trevillian and sophomore libero Alivia Nash were named to the second team, while freshman middle Staysha Jarski was given honorable mention.
Joining the Flivver trio on the first team were Marquette junior outside hitter Grace Filizetti, Marquette junior setter Harlow Davis, Escanaba senior setter Mary Kate Tourangeau, Escanaba senior outside hitter Ava Stalboerger and Gladstone senior middle hitter Lillie Johnson.
Others players voted to the second team included Escanaba senior outside hitter Landry Bray, Escanaba junior setter/right-side hitter Brooklyn Beauchamp, Marquette junior setter Preslie Mason, Gladstone junior outside hitter Brooklyn Lauscher, Gladstone freshman setter MaKenna Mills and Menominee senior libero Richele Milostan.
Other players given honorable mention included Menominee senior setter/outside hitter Jazmine Jasenovsky, Escanaba senior middle hitter Susie Molberg, Marquette junior middle hitter Claire Parent and Gladstone senior defensive specialist/libero Natallie Cartwright.
Escanaba senior libero Harlee Coolman was named the league’s defensive player of the year.
The Eskymos won the junior varsity championship with a 7-1 mark, with the Flivvers finishing tied for third at 4-4.
Kingsford captured the freshman crown with a 6-2 record.
