DNR biologist to discuss Florence County waters

Program at Resource Center on Thursday

FLORENCE, Wis. — Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources fish biologist Greg Matzke will speak on what makes up Florence County’s diverse fisheries at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Florence Natural Resource Center, 5631 Forestry Drive in Florence.

Matzke started his position in 2010 and has surveyed nearly every lake larger than 50 acres with boat access in Florence County.

The findings from his fisheries assessments have provided the basis for many changes to fishing regulations, Department of Natural Resources fish stocking strategy and many unique projects in Florence County.

Matzke’s ultimate goal is to utilize science to improve fishing in the area.

The Florence County Lakes and Rivers Association is sponsoring the Matzke presentation, which is free and open to the public.
