Trappers workshop on Feb. 2

HERMANSVILLE – Members of the of U.P. Trappers District 3 will put on a workshop Feb. 2 for youngsters and any persons interested in becoming trappers.

The 14th annual event will be held at the Community Center in Hermansville beginning at 8 a.m., with the last activity starting at 2:30 p.m.

Many members of this group of veteran trappers will be on hand to offer tips, advice and tales of the trapline to all attendees. The goal is to ensure that the heritage of trapping continues.

Activities for the day include demonstrations by Rich Clark of Willow Tree Furs on proper fur preparation for sale; Clint Seawright of Skunk Creek Trapping Supply on raccoon, mink and muskrat trapping; and Jim Fornetti on weasel trapping.

Seawright will be buying furs and both Clark and Scott Burton of Burtons Trapping Supplies will be offering items for sale.

All youngsters attending will win a door prize and will be given a weasel startup kit or a dog-proof racoon trap. There will be drawings going on throughout the day.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase. The public is invited and admission is free.

“We are pleased to once again host this event,” said Doug Zajdel, a longtime member of UP Trappers. “It is a fun filled learning event and it is great to see all the happy youngsters who can’t wait to try out their new trapping equipment and knowledge in the field.”
