Youth fishing event June 11 in Escanaba

ESCANABA — Kids Fishing Day will take place Saturday, June 11, at the Pocket Park on the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern time and the event will run until 3 p.m. All activities are free of charge and open to youth ages 16 and younger.

This is the same Kids Fishing Day event that has been held at Camp 7 Lake campground for the past 27 years but has found a new home in 2022. In January, the U.S. Forest Service notified the Kids Fishing Day team that the agency would not be able to sponsor the event at its traditional location.

A suitable alternative was found at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Pocket Park.

Familiar activities returning include fishing, casting contests, minnow races, face painting and water alien games, along with free food, goody bags and raffle prizes.
