CHANNING — The Big Shooters rifle team is participating in the yearly American Legion Postal Shoot, with help from American Legion Post 211 of Florence, Wis.

The post recently presented a $200 donation.

The annual postal shoot utilizes targets that are sent to the prospective shooters, with results returned by mail. Shooters will shoot 20 shots standing, 20 kneeling and 20 prone for a total of 60 shots. The maximum score is 600 points.

Once scored, the top shooters from each state are asked to come to the “shoulder to shoulder” match at a central location. Winners of that event are invited to attend the national championships at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Big Shooters Club hails from the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club in Channing, with members from both Michigan and Wisconsin. American Legion Post 363 from Kingsford has also sponsored the team.

In past years, the Big Shooters have produced four individual state champions and one state team title.

Club members thanked Post 211 of Florence, Post 363 of Kingsford, and the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club for making their participation in such events possible.

Big Shooters meet regularly on the first Sunday of every month at the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club at 1 p.m. For more information, please contact Tony Erickson at 906-396-1119 or tonyerickson26@msn.com.

Starting at $3.50/week.
