Hearing delayed for Crystal Falls defendant

JESSE HAMILTON

CRYSTAL FALLS — A Crystal Falls man facing methamphetamine charges in Iron County Trial Court decided Tuesday to postpone his preliminary examination from Aug. 27 to Sept. 11.

Jesse Ray Hamilton, 37, is free on bond while he awaits the hearing on delivery or manufacture of meth, a 20-year felony; possession of meth, a 10-year felony; maintaining a drug house, a two-year high court misdemeanor; and a habitual offender-fourth status, which increases the maximum penalty to life on the felonies and 15 years on the high court misdemeanor.

Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team detectives on Aug. 8 seized more than 40 grams of crystal meth and evidence of drug distribution from Hamilton’s Oswald Street home, according to an UPSET news release. The crystal meth has an estimated street value of $10,000, the release states.
