Those who hinder versus those who help on virus

Speak Out

The Daily News’ editions of April 17 and 18 shows quite a contrast of those who hinder and those who help.

Could any in the that crowd of protestors against Gov. Whitmer’s “stay home, stay safe” policy really think they are immune to the coronavirus? This is an invisible, deadly enemy. The number of cases and deaths caused by this virus is reported daily on television. Those numbers speak for themselves and Gov. Whitmer respects those numbers by trying to keep us safe while using caution in planning to return our state to some sort of normalcy as other governors in both parties are doing. Those who protest against the governor are hindering the process of getting this virus under control.

In contrast to the above, the news photo of the motorcade in Iron Mountain showing appreciation to Dickinson County Healthcare System and the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center workers who risk their health every day due to this virus was a great show of gratitude and very uplifting. Also, the photo of the teachers organizing materials to be delivered to the students was a thoughtful way of moving forward and not allowing this crisis to defeat their purpose. All over this country there are more helpers than those who hinder, as reported on TV and newspapers. If all you can do is to wear a mask when necessary, you are a helper. Keep positive and stay safe.
