Two years in prison given for opioid sales

SHELDON BURKART

IRON MOUNTAIN — A Florence, Wis., man will spend a minimum of two years in prison for selling opioids twice in Iron Mountain.

Sheldon Lee Burkart, 31, previously pleaded guilty to two felony counts of delivery of buprenorphine as a habitual offender-third, making the maximum possible sentence 14 years.

Judge Richard Celello also ordered that Burkart receive substance abuse counseling and treatment while in prison.

Burkart was charged after twice selling buprenorphine for $40 a pill to a confidential informant in March, according to the criminal complaint.

Prosecutors dismissed an unrelated case against Burkart in which Iron Mountain Police officers reportedly found a bag of heroin and Fentanyl, as well as eight “ready-to-sell baggies” of the drugs, packaged methamphetamine, components for a methamphetamine laboratory, Suboxone strips, hypodermic needles, scales and $215 in cash in a vehicle Burkart was driving.
